Thesis plan, chapters and table of contents
Organise your ideas and material.
Build a logical structure for your thesis.
Help with a bachelor’s or master’s thesis outline covers the plan, the structure of chapters and subsections, and their connection to the thesis topic and aim. You can start with just a topic or send an existing outline and your supervisor’s comments. We also help organise sections you have already written and the structure of engineering theses.
What you gain
You know what to describe and where to place it
A plan for further writing
Each chapter has a defined task. It is easier to select material and see which issues still need development.
Fewer repetitions and gaps
You organise scattered content, separate similar threads, and notice missing elements needed to achieve the aim of the work.
Easier to make changes
A clear hierarchy of headings and a consistent layout help you incorporate your supervisor's comments and develop the document.
Scope of support
From the initial plan to organising finished chapters
We tailor the scope to your stage of work and supervisor or university guidelines. Support can also cover coursework assignments, research projects, seminar papers, and other academic texts.
Thesis plan and outline
When you know the topic but need to determine which issues should be included in the document.
- Developing or improving a thesis plan
- Preparing the structure of a bachelor's or master's thesis
- Arranging chapters and subchapters and their titles
- Defining the scope of individual parts in the outline
- Checking the plan's alignment with the topic, aim, and requirements
Result: a clear proposed layout for further writing and discussion with your supervisor.
Theory, methodology and analysis
When individual chapters are prepared but do not yet form a coherent argument.
- Refining the logical order of chapters
- Connecting the theoretical part with the research part
- Organising the layout of the methodological part
- Identifying the place for results analysis and discussion
- Refining the structure of the introduction and conclusion
Result: a clear progression from the thesis’s starting framework, through the analysis, to the conclusions drawn from it.
Restructuring existing content
When material is scattered, ideas are repeated, or you have received comments on the thesis structure.
- Assigning fragments to the appropriate chapters
- Restructuring poorly arranged parts of the document
- Identifying repetitions, gaps, and topics that deviate from the thesis subject
- Refining overly general titles and the scope of subsections
- Adjusting the structure to the supervisor's feedback
Outcome: organised material and guidance on what to move, combine, shorten, or supplement.
Headings, numbering, and table of contents
When the plan is set, but the file requires technical tidying.
- Setting heading styles and the hierarchy of subsections
- Preparing the numbering of chapters and subsections
- Creating or correcting an automatic table of contents
- Checking that the table of contents matches the titles and page numbers
- Organising the placement of appendices, tables, charts, and attachments
Outcome: a document that is easier to navigate and whose table of contents can be updated after changes.

Help with your thesis outline and structure
A clear starting point for writing your thesis
I help refine your topic, plan the chapters and build a logical thesis structure so that you can get started with writing.
A CHAPTER PLAN ALIGNED WITH YOUR TOPIC AND AIM
- a structure for chapters and subsections
- a coherent plan that fits your topic
- an easier discussion with your supervisor
- less confusion when starting your thesis
Ask about your thesis plan
On studentsupport.pl you can ask about the support available.
Scope of support in brief
Start with a logical plan
Send the topic and the supervisor's guidelines. I will help arrange the chapters so they lead to the thesis objective and align with the available materials.
- Layout of chapters and subsections.
- A plan tailored to the topic and objective.
- A starting point for discussion with the supervisor.
Tailoring to the topic and objective
Each part of the thesis should have a specific function
Not every thesis needs the same structure. Original research, literature analysis, case studies, and engineering projects are organised differently. We check the purpose of each part of your document. For an example outline and guidance on preparing it, see the guide bachelor’s and master’s thesis outline. For ways to organise existing chapters, see the guide how to organise your thesis structure.
- Introduction: introduction to the topic, objective, and scope of the thesis
- Theoretical part: concepts and findings needed for the further analysis
- Methodology: description of the research methods, if the thesis includes research
- Analysis or design part: organised presentation of your own work
- Conclusions and summary: a response to what the thesis set out to examine, grounded in its content
- Bibliography and appendices: sources and supplementary materials
The number of chapters, their names, order, and proportions are determined based on the topic and the supervisor's or university's guidelines. The elements above do not mean that a separate chapter is required for each of them.
Outcome of the collaboration
A framework you can use to continue your work
A structured plan
A proposal for chapters and subchapters with a clear hierarchy, tailored to the agreed scope.
Direction for changes
For existing text, we identify sections to move, combine, or expand, and explain the rationale for structural changes.
Consistent structure in the file
If the scope includes working on the document, we organise headings, numbering, and the automatic table of contents.
Tailored scope
A plan from scratch or a new arrangement of existing chapters
The plan can serve to start writing, consult with your supervisor, or organise material that has already been produced. We adapt it to the type of thesis, rather than following a single fixed number of chapters.
You have a topic but no plan yet
We prepare a proposal for chapter and subchapter titles and define what should be included in each part. The plan can indicate key theoretical issues, the place for methodology, analysis, and conclusions. The agreed proportions consider the scope of the topic and the required length of the document.
Chapters require restructuring
Based on the text and supervisor feedback, we indicate which sections to move, combine, or shorten. We refine headings, identify gaps, and organise the order of arguments. If the scope includes editing the file, we implement the structure in the document and update the table of contents.
You receive a proposed plan with a description of each part's content or guidelines for restructuring existing text. After approving the structure, you can commission the development of chapters or the entire thesis. We select the methodology and research instrument to fit the agreed research design.
Do you only need technical fixes to the table of contents, numbering, or styles? Choose the service “Bachelor’s and master’s thesis formatting”. If the outline requires a research design and research instrument, explore the service “Help with your thesis methodology chapter”.
First step
What to send to get started?
Topic and aim of the thesis
Provide your field of study, the type of thesis, and what you want to present, investigate, or design.
Current plan or text
Send the table of contents, outline, notes, or written chapters. A DOCX file is best for technical changes.
Guidelines and feedback
Attach university requirements and supervisor recommendations. Mark the parts of the plan that have already been approved.
Stage and expected scope
State whether you are creating a plan from scratch, restructuring text, or need only the table of contents. Provide the deadline.

Questions about your thesis outline and structure
I have a topic but no thesis outline. Can I ask for help?
We can start with your topic and initial ideas. To develop a suitable outline, we also need to know the aim, type of thesis and requirements. If some details have not yet been decided, we will identify what needs clarification before you develop the text.
Can you reorganise chapters that have already been written?
Yes. We check their order, scope and connections, then propose or make agreed changes to the structure. Preparing missing content and full language editing are agreed separately if needed.
Is a thesis outline the same as an automatic table of contents?
An outline defines the structure and scope of your thesis. An automatic table of contents is generated within the document from correctly formatted headings. We can help with either or both.
Does every thesis need a separate methodology chapter?
There is no single structure suitable for all theses. The placement of the methods description and the division of chapters depend on the nature of the work and the guidelines of the supervisor or the university. We adapt the structure to the specific task.
The methods description should allow the reader to assess the approach taken. Depending on the type of thesis, it may form a separate chapter or part of an analytical or project chapter.
Can you work with an outline approved by my supervisor?
Yes. We treat it as a starting point and take into account the elements that must remain in the thesis. If we see a need for a larger structural change, we will present a proposal for discussion with the supervisor.
